Interdisciplinary Design Education and Collaborating with Industry

Program Director and Associate Professor, Frank Baseman, Associate Professor, Maribeth Kradel-Weitzel, and Assistant Professor, Fashion Industry Management, Nioka Wyatt made a conference presentation on the DEC/QVC project entitled, “Interdisciplinary Design Education and Collaborating with Industry: The DEC/QVC Project” at the 2011 UCDA Design Education Summit, New Jersey City University, Jersey City, NJ.

PhilaU Graphic Design Alumni Philly Happy Hour and Networking Event

Well over thirty-five alums of the Graphic Design program joined faculty and friends at a gathering at the Manayunk Brew Pub for a Happy Hour and Networking event, the first of its kind in the Philadelphia area. A good time was had by all in catching up with old friends, and familiar faces. These events also give an opportunity for alums to meet people from different classes. More PhilaU Graphic Design Alumni Networking events are being planned for the future, so please stay tuned.

Senior Design Show 2011 and Top 5 Senior Portfolios

At the Annual Senior Design Show, the following students were recipients of the 2011 Philadelphia University Maurice Kanbar Awards and the Graphic Design Communication Top 5 Senior Portfolios: Tracey McCaffrey, Gold Award; Nate Myers, Silver Award; Sabrina Pfautz, Bronze Award; Laura Farnen and Joe Giuffrida, Honorable Mention. In addition, Tracey McCaffrey won the Excellence in Graphic Design (Top Senior) Award. The Senior Design Show 2011 poster was designed by Lindsey Gorfman (PhilaU GDC, 2011) in the Philadelphia University Design Workshop (PUDW) course.

Mike Kase Honored with Adjunct Faculty Award

Mike Kase (PhilaU GDC, 1998) won the School of Design and Engineering Adjunct Faculty Award. Mike is an active design and illustrator with his own practice, and he has been teaching in the Graphic Design program for the past five years. Mike has taught anything from Illustration to Packaging, from Design III. through Capstone. Known for his quiet, yet forceful teaching style, students have come to know Mike as a compassinate soul and a great thinker, and they have have responded extremely well to his guidance. Through the years many of his students’ work has been recognized with numerous awards. Congratulations, Dr. Kase.
