No Such Thing as a Free Lunch: Alumni Lunch with Machinery

Wonderful to gather with several alums at the same time, as Professor and Program Director Frank Baseman recently visited Machinery, a Strategic and Creative Agency at their Philadelphia headquarters near Chinatown in Center City. Pictured from left to right: Laureen Wong, Graphic Designer (PhilaU GDC, 2015); Baseman; Corey Danks, Graphic Designer (PhilaU GDC, 2013); and Kristian Summerer (PhilaU GDC, 1999), Creative Director and Principal of Machinery.

Recent Field-Trip No. 2. Work on What You Love: Bruce Mau Rethinking Design

Students and faculty of the PhilaU Design 6 Brand Identity course took a class field trip recently to visit Bruce Mau’s exhibition at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. “Work on What You Love: Bruce Mau Rethinking Design” displays many of his visionary design principles. Continuously innovating unique solutions to global challenges, Mau’s work left the students very inspired.

Recent Field-Trip No. 1. Red Tettemer O’Connell + Partners: Be Unforgettable

By Lydia Richardson (PhilaU GDC, 2018); Photography by Kris Bocage (PhilaU IDD, 2018)

“Be unforgettable” are words to live by at the small but fierce full marketing agency, Red Tettemer O’Connell + Partners. Recently, the Philadelphia University AIGA Student Group returned to tour the space for a second time. Needless to say, we can attest that Red Tettemer is, in fact, unforgettable. We arrived early to scope out Blick across the street and to pick up some La Colombe coffee. Upon arrival to the RTO&P lobby, we were greeted by Justin Timberlake music. For the newcomers, this was the first indication that we were about to experience something great.

Real World 2016: PhilaU Graphic Design Alumni Event

The Graphic Design Communication program proudly welcomed back a stellar lineup of alums at the annual Real World 2016 PhilaU Graphic Design Alumni event. The seats were packed in the DEC Center Forum with prospective students and parents attending the Graphic Design Discovery Day, as well as current students (regardless that their attendance was required!) to hear the “pearls of wisdom” offered by those that have made their way in the real world (yes, there is life after college!).

PhilaU Graphic Design Discovery Day 2016

The Graphic Design Communication program at Philadelphia University was thrilled to welcome and host Accepted and Interested prospective students and their families at the recent PhilaU Graphic Design Discovery Day 2016 event. The event was intended to give the prospective student a more in-depth visit to campus and to get a better sense of what makes our program unique.

PhilaU Graphic Design Students Represent at Discovery Day

An awesome group of energetic current students represented the PhilaU Graphic Design program in an absolutely wonderful way at the recent Graphic Design Discovery Day 2016 event. Sophomore, junior and senior-year students were in the mix as they were deputized as Rambassadors for the day.

2016 PhilaU Graphic Design Swag

Thanks to the very talented senior-year Graphic Design student, Ronnie Alley, who created some great “swag” in the form of T-shirts and buttons for the PhilaU Graphic Design program. Among many quotations from well-known designers that Ronnie used on the buttons, was a quote by Saul Bass, “I want to make beautiful things, even if nobody cares” for the back of the T-shirt.
