Twisted Sophistication was inspired by Emily Ray’s visual journal, which she has drawn in, painted in, glued, ripped, printed, and written songs and poems in. The journal itself is made of a 1920’s copy of an introduction to Aristotle’s philosophy. It influenced all the prints she created for this collection, which are drawn both by hand and in Photoshop. Additionally, Emily used the lab’s fabric digital printers to render her prints and patterns. Emily’s collection is hands-on from start to finish. As the first collection of her senior year, she chose to use her own artwork as inspiration. Diving into the designs and emotions of her visual journal, this collection is very personal, and it embodies Emily’s love of young, youthful, fun-loving styles and prints. All prints and patterns used in Twisted Sophistication were created and designed by Emily.
