Federal Mogul Innovation Project

Joseph Geiger, Kerem Kurbanzade, Nicolas Le Gall, Bill Rumaker, Joseph Schurr, Jodi Wallis

Business, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Graduate Textile Engineering

In the Spring 2014 semester, Mechanical Engineering students, Business students, Industrial Design students, and Textile Engineering students took on the Federal Mogul Innovation Project. Federal Mogul provided the students with a shrinkable woven fabric that offers excellent abrasion resistance and thermal resistance and asked them to find new applications for this material. Students were divided into several teams, with at least one student from each major on each team.

The winning team chose to make bicycle and motorcycle seat covers with the fabric, as it could be shrunk to fit various seat types. The Federal Mogul judges awarded this project first prize based on the design, the presentation of the concept, and the business plan.
