In Spring 2014, PhilaU students in Textile Design, Textile Engineering and Industrial Design participated in a semester-long design project sponsored by Glen Raven, Inc. and Sunbury Textile Mills. The students were challenged to envision the next 20 years of the Sunbrella brand, a leader in outdoor furnishings. Students created textiles and textile products for a wide range of end uses. Top prizes went to Kailey Smith (first place), Emily Weiss (second place), Xue “Susan” Sun (third place) and Mary Armacost (honorable mention). On top of their monetary awards, all four students were flown to Sunbury, PA for a tour of the Sunbury Textile Mill. Numerous additional prizes were awarded to students who participated in the project.
