Catch the action as Philadelphia University’s Men’s Basketball Team battles for first in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Quarterfinals Saturday, March 1 at 2 p.m. in The Gallagher Athletic, Recreation, and Convocation Center.
Members of the University community are invited to wear their PhilaU gear and cheer the Rams—who are undefeated in the CACC—on to victory as they take on the University of the Sciences Devils on Herb Magee court.
The game comes on the heels of an announcement made by the CACC naming Head Coach Herb Magee Coach of the Year, and forwards Malcolm Ingram ’10 and Jason Hickenbottom ’08, and point guard Russell Frederick ’10, to the league’s All-Conference Team. Magee and his players were chosen by the league’s coaches for their perfect 16-0 mark in the CACC this season. Boasting a 19-11 overall record, the Rams are currently ranked sixth in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Northeast Region, positioning them for a potential bid to the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
Lady Rams’ center Jessica Romano ’10 and forward Ashley Webster ’08, were also named to the CACC All-Conference Team this week. Ranked 10th in the NCAA Division II Northeast Region, the Women’s Basketball team finished its season on a six-game winning streak, also placing them in a CACC Quarterfinals competition against Wilmington University March 1 at 2 p.m. in New Castle, Del.
“We’re very proud of all the players that were named to the All-Conference Teams, as well as Coach Magee,” said Tom Shirley, director of Athletics and Women’s Basketball head coach. “Year in and year out, the University’s Basketball program has maintained a winning tradition, which is illustrated once again in both teams’ participation in this year’s CACC Quarterfinals.”
Winners of the March 1 games will advance to the CACC Semifinals on March 5, with the men playing at home, and the women playing away, at 7 p.m. The conference title game is slated for March 8. For the latest information on Athletics at PhilaU, CLICK
