Spring Fling, April 24, brought a great number of students, faculty, staff and their children out on the Kanbar Center patio and the surrounding campus to enjoy a beautiful, sunny day filled with music, food and activities. Not only was it Spring Fling, it was Take Your Children To Work Day, and many children of all ages had a great time with their parents. Activities included a jousting game, facepainting, a rockclimbing wall, a caricature artist, horseshoes, shuffleboard and a giant chess game.
The band Jealousy Curve provided a consistent beat to the event. This year, Spring Fling boasted a green theme and celebrated the great outdoors Strolling the campus was our very own Kermit the Frog, who found Philadelphia University an easy place to be green. Underscoring that theme, the Aaark organization was on hand with presentations about animals of the wild and participants had the chance to see a falcon and owl up close and learn about their habitats. The Outdoors Club provided tents and other equipment that beckoned visitors to get outside and enjoy nature.
Organizations with booths provided giveaways and the opportunity to sign up for upcoming events such as Kelly’s Ride in June and the Physician Assistant Run this Saturday, April 26, which benefits the Make A Wish Foundation. Fashion Show tickets were on sale for students, the Women’s Resource Committee provided information about several topics, the Senior Gift table was manned by alumni, yoga t-shirts were on sale, RH Resident Assistants had a car wash promotion and SOSA (Student Organization for Sustainable Action) members happily shared information about their green efforts at PhilaU. Philly Car Share was also on hand to provide information about their services.
The food area, manned by members of Dining Services, was a busy place. Participants enjoyed a cookout lunch and sampled treats provided by sponsors that included Frito’s, Hershey’s Ice Cream, Wawa, Red Bull, Metro, Taste of Philly and Vitamin Water.
It was a great day to welcome spring at Philadelphia University!
