Philadelphia University Athletes Receive Academic All-Star Honors

Six outstanding student-athletes have been honored as Academic All-Stars by the Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association as reported in Sunday’s Philadelphia Inquirer.

“We are proud of these Philadelphia University student-athletes who excel in the classroom as well as on the playing field,” said Tom Shirley, director of athletics and head coach for women’s basketball.  “They represent the exceptional athletic and academic talent we have at Philadelphia University.”

In addition to being named an Academic All-Star, lacrosse player Brooke Woodland was selected as player of the year.  In addition, Woodland, a Psychology major who graduated in May, has been selected to receive a $10,000 NCAA postgraduate scholarship.  She will pursue her M.B.A. at Philadelphia University starting this fall.

The other Philadelphia University All-Stars are Zach Mentzer, ’09, and Tyler Mentzer, ’10, both Architecture majors, for baseball; Maddie Smith, ’08, Fashion Design, women’s tennis; Jacque Curtis, ’08, Fashion Design, softball; and Anders Novesky, ’08, Management, men’s tennis.
