This Wed., Oct. 1 kicks off the celebration of Dr. Stephen Spinelli Jr. as the University’s 11th president with a campus-wide Day of Service. More than 1,400 PhilaU faculty, staff and students are participating in projects ranging from city clean up and beautification; to reading and tutoring children; to feeding, clothing and assisting the needy. For more information, go to the Day of Service webpage.

Among the many events this week, the University will host the award-winning author and journalist Stephen Dubner, who co-wrote the popular book Freakonomics. Dubner will present the keynote lecture at an academic symposium on Thurs., Oct. 2, which will start at 9:30 a.m. in the Kanbar Campus Center Performance Space.  At 1 p.m., a panel made up of faculty and a graduate student will respond to Dubner’s lecture. Faculty and student exhibits will be on display around campus.

Also on Oct. 2, former President Gallagher and former trustee and benefactor, Harold Ronson will be installed, respectively, as President Emeritus and Trustee Emeritus.  The ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. in the Gallagher Athletic, Recreation and Convocation Center.

On Fri., Oct. 3, the Founders’ Society Gala will be held at the Rittenhouse Hotel, and on Sat., Oct. 4, alumni, students, parents, families and friends will come together to celebrate Homecoming and Family Day, a fun-filled day of activities and athletic events.

The celebration leads up to the Installation of Dr. Spinelli as Philadelphia University’s President on Sun., Oct. 5 in the Gallagher Center at 11:30 a.m. All faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members are invited to attend. A reception will immediately follow the ceremony.
