Janet Brady, associate professor of textiles, on staying warm this winter, in the Daily News

Janet Brady, associate professor of textiles, says nubby, brushed fabrics like fleece or flannel will keep you feeling warmer this winter, reports the Oct. 28 Philadelphia Daily News.  That’s because your skin makes less contact with the fluffy layers than with a smooth fabric such as satin, and feels warmer to the touch even if the fabrics are the same temperature.  The nubby fabrics also trap more body warmth in their layers, further insulating the body.
