PhilaU XC makes CACC history with sweep at CACC Championships

The Philadelphia University men’s and women’s cross country teams made Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) history with a sweep of the conference championships on a rainy Saturday, Oct. 24 afternoon at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia.

No other team has ever won both the men’s s and women’s championships until this year.  The women were the defending CACC Champions.

The men were led by junior Shawn D’Andrea of Blackwood, N.J., who finished second overall with a time of 27:29 to match his best CACC championship performance. He finished second overall as a sophomore).  Other PhilaU All-Conference finishers were: senior Andrew Piotrowski in fourth (27:59), Kip Kirui in fifth (28:12), Tyler Dye in sixth (29:21) and Kirk Tencate in 15th (29:02).

The women’s team, defending CACC champions, were led by sophomore Sarah Simonetti of Perkasie, Pa., who took second-overall in 20:18- her best career finish at the Championship event.  Other CACC All-Conference finishers were: sophomore Anjelica Dinucci in fourth (20:25), sophomore Gabrielle Dei Tos in sixth (21:31), senior Faith Anderson in seventh (21:32) and junior Kaitlin O’Leary in 12th (21:50).
