Women’s Rowing Finishes Third in NCAA National Championship

The Philadelphia University women’s rowing team placed third overall at the NCAA Division II National Championships on Lake Natoma in California on May 30, a team best for the Lady Rams.

In the Varsity 4 Grand Finale, PhilaU took third with a time of 7:56:92 with Western Washington taking first and Florida Tech taking second. In the Varsity 8 Petite Final, PhilaU won with a time of 6:55:06 followed by Florida Tech. Western Washington took the overall team title, while Seattle Pacific University took the runner-up trophy.

“I’m really pleased with the overall increased quality of our program,” said head coach Chris O’Brien. “Each year we have grown in terms of talent and depth.”

Senior rowers Magdalena Dzierzanowski and Renee Rosaieski were named to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Pocock All-American Team for the 2010 season, the first rowers from PhilaU to attain this achievement.

Members of the women’s rowing team include graduate student Lindsey Catov; seniors Maureen Agnew, Magdalena Dzierzanowski, Mara Dondero, Maria McDevitt, Carolyn Steinberg and Briana Zelinski; juniors Caitlin Connors, Kara Knox and Renee Rozaieski; sophomores Megan Gallagher, Lauren Greenwood, Leah Nixon and Casey Watrous; freshmen Allison Cook, Lauren Fox, Jessika Kachnic and Chelsea Overgaard.

“This was a great way to end the season and it will motivate the team for next year,” said O’Brien.

Congratulations Lady Rams!
