PhilaU Singers Join In ‘Random Act of Culture’ at Center City Macy’s

It was a real “Hallelujah” moment for scores of shoppers at Macy’s Center City store on Saturday, Oct. 30 at noon. This was the appointed time when 650 singers burst into song, surprising and delighting shoppers when the entire first floor Court erupted into the majestic “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s MessiahWatch a YouTube video of the performance.

The PhilaU Singers were a part of this unique happening, considered a “flash choir” of talent assembled through clues on Facebook and Twitter only days before.  Twenty-eight groups had signed up to participate.

Tagged “A Random Act of Culture,” the event was organized by the Opera Company of Philadelphia and funded through a grant from the Knight Foundation.
