PhilaU students successfully grow mushroom furniture: Metropolis

The furniture designed and grown from mushroom roots by industrial design students Brian McClellan and Tara Sisman was featured in the July/August issue of Metropolis.  Their year-long process included research on organic, living materials, multiple prototypes–including one of McClellan’s that didn’t dry enough and sprouted mushrooms–and growing time.  “It was a gamble to do this for our senior thesis,” Sisman told Metropolis.  But, she added, “I made a chair from nature.
