PhilaU faculty and alumni are participating in discussions, lectures and events as part of DesignPhiladelphia 2013. The ninth annual citywide design festival runs from Thursday, Oct. 10 through Friday, Oct. 18. This year, DesignPhiladelphia will present 120 programs with the theme EXPERIENCEdesign!

Associate Professor of Industrial Design Lyn Godley will present a fiber optic lighting design installation in the 5th floor Atrium.

Friday, Oct. 11
6 to 8 p.m.
Philadelphia Center for Architecture, 1218 Arch Street
Presenters will fast forward through 20 slides in 20 seconds each to answer the question: What’s next for Philly? Alumni Eric Torrens ’13 will present his thesis project Product Park: a Self-Sustaining, Multi-Purpose Urban Greenway; Troy Hannigan ’11 will present his thesis project Visitability: Making Homes Welcoming to All; and adjunct faculty member Michael Spain will present Mentoring Philadelphia’s Next Generation of Young Designers.

Service Jam: Brainstorming a Better Philadelphia Through One of the Five Senses

Natalie Nixon, director of the Strategic Design MBA at PhilaU, will participate in a panel discussion of how innovations for the senses could improve education, transportation, housing or health care in Philadelphia.

Tour the Philadelphia Fashion Incubator studio and meet PhilaU ’06 alumnae and 2013 Designers-In-Residence Melissa Choi and Pia Panaligan.
The designers’ Senpai + Kohai collection will be showcased in the Philadelphia Fashion Incubator Exhibit. Join them for the preview reception at City Hall from 5 to 7 p.m.
