PhilaU Dedicates Kanbar Living Room in Memory of Matthew Glass

President Spinelli and Dr. Steven Glass dedicate the Kanbar Campus Center Living Room in Matthew’s memory.

Family, friends, students, faculty and staff gathered in The Kanbar Campus Center on Nov. 5 to celebrate the life of student Matthew Glass, who died tragically in a motorcycle accident on Oct. 22, 2012. The Kanbar Campus Center Living Room was renamed the Matt Glass Living Room in his honor.

During the memorial service, family members and friends remembered Matthew by sharing stories of his life. Matthew’s father, Dr. Steven Glass, said Matthew was a person of compassion who embraced life and inspired him “to be a better me.”

Vincent Keegan, Student Government Association president, said “Matt’s positivity and generosity of spirit radiated through Philadelphia University. His example reminds us how we should all strive to treat others–from best friends to near strangers–with empathy and understanding.”

After the memorial service, President Spinelli and Dr. Glass officially dedicated the Living Room in Matthew’s memory in a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“I think it is very, very important that a university–a community of learners–comes together to understand and to learn together, and it is overwhelmingly apparent to me that Matthew taught us a lot,” Spinelli said.
