PhilaU students who traveled to Japan during spring break to study handcraft techniques were featured in The Kyoto Shimbun News on March 21. According to the article, as translated by associate professor of textile design Hitoshi Ujiie, who accompanied the students on the trip, seven PhilaU students visited the craft studio Shimode Makie to observe the art of Japanese lacquer on March 20. The students visited Kyoto from March 15 to 22 to study the importance of traditional handmade craft techniques.
