PhilaU Tops Record for Student-Athletes Earning DII Academic Achievement Awards

A record number of 84 PhilaU student-athletes earned 2013-14 Division II Athletics Directors Association (D2ADA) academic achievement awards, the organization announced Aug. 22.

This year’s list of award winners easily surpassed the University’s previous record of 50 that was set last year. Philadelphia led the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference for the fourth time since 2008 and ranked 12th in DII.

To receive the D2ADA academic achievement award, a student-athlete must have: a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher; have completed a minimum four semesters of college level work; and have been an active member of an intercollegiate team during the last academic year.

Women’s basketball player Megan Finn and women’s lacrosse player Kristen Blye received this honor for the fourth time. Eight PhilaU student-athletes are three-time award winners and 19 are two-time recipients.

The women’s lacrosse team led the University with 11 athletes receiving the award.
