Student Public Awareness Campaign Wins International Award

An interdisciplinary student design team has received a prestigious international merit award for its spring 2014 integrated public awareness campaign addressing sexual violence in college life.

The creative team honored by the 2015 Graphis New Talent Design award included graphic design communication students Sarah Bui, Brianna DiPietro, Vicki Ewing, Elissa Flanigan, Eric Lacy, Franklin Overstreet and Nadin Radwan, and animation students Samantha Miller and Kelly McHugh. All team members graduated in 2014, except Lacy, who will graduate this May.

Frank Baseman, graphic design communication program director, and Fred Freeman, animation faculty member, supervised the project. “The students did an awesome job on the project,” Baseman said. “It’s not easy to have nine different designers working on one project. I was very proud of their efforts.”

The team examined the important topic of sexual violence as seen from the perspectives of bystanders, perpetrators and victims. They created an integrated public awareness campaign including print ads, public service announcements, a mobile website, buttons and stickers.
