Head Coach Christopher O’Brien anticipates a strong showing at the competitive Head of the Schuylkill Regatta.

The Jefferson women’s rowing team will compete in the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta this Saturday, Oct. 28. The Rams will face 40 other schools from across the East Coast.

“The goals have been set high,” said Christopher O’Brien, women’s rowing head coach and assistant director of athletics at Jefferson. “With 12 of 14 returners from the NCAA Championship boats, plus the addition of eight recruited freshman, we hope to regain the No. 1 seed in the East Region and a top 5 national ranking.”

The 2016 Head of the Schuylkill saw the Novice Eight and Varsity Eight finish in the top quarter of their fields, O’Brien said. In 2017, with more depth and experience, the Varsity Eight looks to place in the top 5 (of 45 boats), Varsity Four in the top 10 (of 50 boats) and the Novice Eight in the top 5 (of 50 boats).

The race times are:

  • 8:30 a.m.: Women’s Varsity Pair
  • 10:35 a.m.: Women’s Varsity Four
  • 11:30 a.m.: Women’s Novice Eight
  • 1:55 p.m.: Women’s Varsity Eight

The regatta starting line is on Kelly Drive, just over a mile from Ravenhill Campus. A parents, alumni and friends of Jefferson Rowing tent will be set up at the Three Angels Festival Area. Visit here for more info.
