Fashion merchandising and management students Kishanna Lebrew ’20 and Mykalia Wolfe ’20 each received $1,500 scholarships to attend the National Retail Federation (NRF) Conference in New York City last month. Along with six other Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) students, they participated in NRF’s Student Program at the meeting.
NRF is the largest retail conference in the country, making it an excellent opportunity for students to learn from industry leaders, as well as discuss internship possibilities, said Nioka Wyatt, fashion merchandising and management program director at Jefferson.
To earn the scholarships, Wolfe—student ambassador for Jefferson’s NRF program—submitted a proposal that highlighted how she would advance NRF on campus and Lebrew shared her professional retail goals and how the University would help her to attain them.
“As an aspiring entrepreneur, I loved hearing the speakers’ stories about how they pushed through the hard times and became successful through it all,” Wolfe said. “It’s an experience that I will always carry with me.”
This marked the first time Jefferson students attended the NRF Conference, which attracted over 800 students from across the country.
