Medical School Project Promotes Healthy Habits in Communities: American Heart Association News

Sidney Kimmel Medical College student Terry Gao ’20 has spent this year as a fellow with Jefferson’s Health Design Lab to learn how to better serve those in economically disadvantaged communities in Philadelphia, American Heart Association News reported April 11.

“You need to have some insight into where people come from,” Gao said. “For instance, you can’t counsel people about eating healthy if you don’t know about their lives. I can’t tell someone to buy more fruit and vegetables if they’re the most expensive options and they have to travel an hour to get them.”
